These works are made from locally sourced natural materials: Red or Yellow Cedar, hemp string, rice (mulberry) paper, ink, rice glue. They vary in size from rather small (8″x8″x10″) to quite large (4’x4’x6.5″). They are composed of generally 5, but as many as 7, roughly identical drawings which are cut into strips and reassembled, glued on to a string-frame armature, spread out to approximately double their pre-cut width. The piece is then hung from the ceiling. The pieces respond to ambient air flow, atmospheric fluctuation, human presence and breeze. They offer a constantly changing visual display as they respond to the elements and the changing sight lines of the viewer.
